Google Correlate Tutorial
Google Correlate is an experimental new tool on Google Labs which lets you use the same methodology and data as Google Flu Trends. Google Correlate is like Google Trends in reverse. With Google Trends, you type in a query and get back a series of its frequency (over time, or in each US state). With Google Correlate, you enter a data series (the target) and get back queries whose frequency follows...

Google Trends - "what does my name mean" searches...
I believe people want to find meaning from their feelings. One way to find meaning is through their name which speaks to whether their name, a data point, is associated and connects with the feelings of the user. This analysis was studied using the top 5 searched words being wanting to be defined using Google search.

IDEA - Why the top 5 most frequently defined words...
I was curious today - given that Google collectively has superintelligence, can its Google suggestion feature in search for words defined tell us what we see and how we may feel based on the collective wisdom of the world? As on May 3, 2011, the top five Google suggestion searches for finding a defined word was culture, love, ethics, irony and media.
I find that when I want to understand the...

When I went on my first break this morning while working at the TBRHSC, the location where Steven Harper visited during his campaign rally in Thunder Bay this morning, I came across Harper’s campaign buses, which were located at the front entrance of the hospital.
I didn’t really think anything of it.
Ten minutes later, while sitting on a couch and starring at the large windows...

Overview of TBnewswatch online news story titles -...
Based on my twitter followers, which includes over 100 news sources, I never see news story titles that short or that general like the ones in TBnewswatch.
I think with titles that these, it makes it harder for people on social networks to understand what the title means as it is very general and open to interpretation. Like with “Women Killed”, is does not state the potential...

Geo-Tweet Heatmap of Melbourne - a new form of...
Trendsmap over the past few weeks has been building visualisations out of geo-coded tweet data. When looking at the map below, it looks like electricity to me - it is in essence, electricity in the form of human thought & language. Thinking even only 7 years ago, we would have never thought this was possible.
Trendsmap states the following about geo-coded tweets:
What is a geo-coded tweet?...

Placing a QR code in the Chronicle Journal for...
Today I was reading Thunder Bay’s newspaper and read the main headline regarding Habitat for Humanity’s cash shortgage to build a home for a local resident. I though it would be a great time to spread the idea about using QR codes to potentially raise funds in the future. Even though this technology is fairly new, it is free and easy to create. Since it is fairly new, many people may...
